Many clients that I work with share that they hesitated to begin therapy because they thought their issues weren’t “serious” or “bad” enough- they compared their situation to others, and would often say, “I might struggle with food, but I’m not as sick as _ so I don’t need help”. Or, they would minimize their issues- “I have no right to feel this way, I just need to get over it”.

Let me tell you, if you feel like you are missing out on life because your mind is consumed with how you look, what you are or are not eating, or how others are perceiving you, then you DO deserve help. It is okay to ask for support.

You may may be struggling with disordered eating or body image issues if:

  • You feel so uncomfortable in your body, sometimes it is hard to relax/be present

  • You find yourself constantly comparing yourself to others or your old self

  • You do things with food that you feel the need to hide from others 

  • You feel full of shame/guilt after eating

  • The body image/disordered eating issues are impacting your life in a big way (like your relationships, your overall functioning, etc.)

  • You have been in therapy for these issues before, but could benefit from revisiting some of these things again and getting some new tools/skills
